U.K. government incentives create increase in solar installation jobs
UK government incentives stimulating demand for solar panels increased installer jobs by 75 percent in 2010.
In April, the UK released guaranteed pricing for electricity obtained from renewable sources. These feed-in tariffs represent up to ten times market prices. This created a jump in PV panel installations to 4.6 megawatts. The figure is higher than that of installations done during the entire year of 2009.
Sharp Corp., the largest manufacturer of solar cells in Japan, owns the largest solar panel plant in the UK. In response to increasing demand, Sharp plans to double production at the UK plant.
