DRI Energy and Mercer Foods, a company in the food drying industry have commissioned a 1 MW solar photovoltaic ground-mounted system at the Mercer Foods facility in Modesto, CA.
DRI Energy completed the project in a record 33 days, meeting a critical deadline to preserve Mercer Foodsf solar rebate from Modesto Irrigation District (MID).
The Mercer Foods installation is expected to offset almost 15% of their energy usage and provide the equivalent CO. reduction of taking 217 passenger vehicles off the road. 
"This project needed to be completed on-time or Mercer foods would not have received their reserved rebate level." said Mike Zweifel, Photovoltaic Program Coordinator at Modesto Irrigation District, "DRI Energy stepped up and made it happen."
Mercer Foods operates state of the art freeze drying equipment and is a heavy user of electricity. They have already completed extensive energy efficiency work at their plant, and solar was the next logical step. 
"We work in a very competitive industry and we are always looking for ways to run our operations more efficiently and cost-effectively," said Dave Noland, President of Mercer Foods. 
